- The Blue tongued skink is commonly known as a ‘Blue tongue’
- lifespan around 20 years
- Average size of adult is around 35- 50cm
- The prominent blue tongue is used as a warning to potential predators.
- Naturally you would find the species in Australia
- Omnivore, the animal feeds on a variety of insects, fruit and flowers
- The skink will give birth to live young, the amount of young a skink will have widely ranges from 5- 15
- Once matured, the skink can reach around 20 inches in length
- The skink is a ground dweller, in the wild you will rarely see the animal climbing.
- Domesticated skinks will generally be gentle and easy to handle.
- The blue tongued skinks gestation period is approximately 100 days
- The lizard has the ability to shed its tail in order to escape from predator attacks
- Predators of the skink include the Tasmanian Devil, Kookaburras and Dingoes
- The skink is slow moving, however when threatened the lizard will stand their ground, puff up their body and hiss at the predator.
- The skink has been known to ingest small stones in order to help food digestion.
